about
We are currently preparing a slew of new music including several music videos and documentary style looks into the creation of some of the songs and the stories behind them….
This process takes time and we wanted to give you all who have been patiently waiting for new music something to hold you over, The Wellington Sessions.
The Wellington Sessions were recorded in Traverse City at the home of our good friend, Brett Karis. Brett has been one of the biggest supporters of us and our art since we met in back in 2007. We turned his living room into a recording studio and were in Traverse City for about thirty hours total. Arriving on a Wednesday morning and leaving the following afternoon.
Brett and Nixon pulled vinyl from the Karis record collection and I wrote as the beats were created. All of the lyrics except for those to “Hypothermia” were written in that living room. Ryan K. Wilson and Molly Bouwsma added the angelic harmonies to the "Hypothermia” chorus after the Traverse sessions, in Grand Rapids, MI.
Another friend of 5iveit, Jason Kott(Brent James & The Contraband) was living with Brett at the time and plays bass on each of the four songs. He was coming and going as we recorded the tracks and layed down his bass parts a half hour before we had to leave. He literally did one take with each of his bass guitars per song. What you hear is exactly what he played.
During the trip we also had a show at Union Street Station that inspired the creation of “Doing Too Much”. The details of that tale would be better told in person.
The artwork is a photo of an original painting by Josh “Juan” Fifarek, taken by Joe Forsythe. Juan’s painting hung on the wall in the living room where these recordings were created.
Enjoy The Wellington Sessions. We are eager to share the main course with you very soon.
